For Guests:
Throwing confetti at a wedding can be a fun tradition. To ensure that everyone enjoys the moment and that it goes smoothly, here are 10 top tips, 5 for guests and 5 for the happy couple:
- Use Biodegradable Confetti: Opt for biodegradable confetti made from materials like rice paper, flower petals, or dried leaves. This is not only more eco-friendly but also easier to clean up afterwards.
- Coordinate with the Couple: Check with the couple or someone like me (their wedding coordinator) to determine the best moment for the confetti toss – it’s not always as the couple walks back down the aisle after the ceremony!
- Distribute Confetti Packets: Instead of having guests bring their own confetti, provide small packets enough confetti for each guest. This ensures an even distribution and prevents guests from accidentally bringing non-biodegradable or messy confetti.
- Mind the Wind: If the wedding is outdoors, consider the wind direction before tossing confetti. You don’t want it blowing into guests’ faces or away from the couple. Adjust your positioning accordingly to make the moment picture-perfect – a professional photographer will usually help with this!
- Toss Gently: When the moment arrives, toss the confetti gently into the air so it falls like a colorful shower around the newlyweds. Avoid throwing it directly at the couple’s faces, as this can be uncomfortable and may result in less flattering photos.
For couples:
- Remember to keep your chin up: It is likely your chosen photographer will say this to you as well; it makes for better photos!
- Try not to open your mouth too wide: For your own sake really and if we say this to you and guests follow point 5 above, we’ll be laughing.
- Pause halfway down to kiss: Again, I’m probably echoing the professional photographers out there but I’ve done my fair share of confetti throws… it’s a great photo opportunity after all!
- Give instructions to bridesmaids/ushers to help the confetti throw go smoothly: Designate a person or multiple people to be responsible for handing out the confetti and/or if you’re making up cones, ensure your guests know to empty the confetti into their hand to throw.
- Timeline of events: Confetti throws create a golden opportunity to smoothly go from one moment to the next; going into reception drinks after a confetti throw usually works a treat!
Bonus Tip (for everyone involved):
Be mindful of venue rules regarding confetti. Some venues may have restrictions or specific guidelines for using confetti, so always check in advance to avoid any issues.
Remember, the goal is to create a joyful and memorable moment for the couple while being considerate of the environment and the comfort of all guests.
