Christmas is the most magical time of the year and families decorating their Christmas tables has become a more popular idea. We absolutely love decorating our houses for Christmas; we want your Christmas table to have a huge impact!
Christmas is the perfect time to switch up your decor and create the tablescape of dreams. We, as stylists are here to give you the advice and inspiration you need.
- Pick a Theme
- Layer your look
- Add in foliage
- Add in a centrepiece
- Add lighting
- Add the details
- Add the finishing touches
The first thing you have to consider before creating the tablescape is how big your table is and how much room you have to play with.
- Are you planning to have a buffet style Christmas dinner in the middle of the table?
- Are you having a plated meal?
Plated meal – If you are having a plated Christmas meal then you have more space on the table to style
Buffet Style – If you are having a buffet style Christmas meal, then you won’t have as much space in the middle of the table and instead need to consider where else you can make an impact.
Table Styling items to consider:
- Cutlery
- Glassware
- Table Runner
- Napkins
- Charger Plates
- Plates
- Candlestick Holders
- Candlesticks
- Tealight Holders
- Tealights
- A Centrepiece
Christmas Scents:
- Rosemary
- Sage
- Nutmeg
- Cinnamon
- Clove
- Peppermint
The scents can come through candles as well as other styling items on the tables, such as pine cones.
Steps to bringing your Christmas table design to life:
- Step 1 – pick a theme / colour palette, you do not need to go for the typical festive red and green (unless this is what you would like to do). You have the chance to change this up, adding in blues or pinks – we do always recommend that the second colour however, is gold or silver. The accents can be through your candlestick holders, charger plates, cutlery or glassware.
- Step 2 – layer your look, you can do this through adding in a table runner and charger plates to elevate the tablescape. The material of your table runner can vary, we love cheesecloth and/or chiffon!
- Step 3 – add in your foliage down the centre of the table and scatter pinecones down the middle. You can combine both a traditional and modern feel to your table. The traditional greenery (wreaths and garlands) as well as fairy lights, with the modern flower arrangements or candle holders.
- Step 4 – choosing a centrepiece. This could be glass cylinders, lanterns or a flower centrepiece.
- Step 5 – add lighting to the table, could be through twinkly fairy lights and/or candlelight. Perfect for a laid-back setting with your family and friends, adding a nice, warm glow.
- Step 6 – add the details. Will you write place cards? Perhaps you have some fancy glassware and always polish your cutlery.
- Step 7 – add the finishing touches to the place settings. This can include Christmas crackers or favours.
