A series all about wedding mishaps and how they were dealt with by either myself or fellow event professionals offering coordination services.
Smooth event coordination requires (amongst other things) quick-thinking, experience and knowledge. It is a short-term role which supports Clients in the final few weeks of their event planning and on-the-day itself; whereby the responsibility to manage and oversee all the moving parts – often associated with any wedding or event – falls on you, the professional.
In this role, I have learned that it is essential to react effectively to the problem in front of you, with as little flap as possible. The next scenario detailing the importance of this skillset is:
A button on the Groom’s suit comes loose:
This is one of the things I was tasked with when assisting at an event. Luckily, it was a summers day and it happened a couple of hours before the ceremony was taking place offsite but sewing back on a button is not likely to be the most pressing task at hand but having an assistant onsite to oversee the smaller things means you have more time to coordinate the much more important tasks at hand.
Clothing mishaps are almost inevitable at any wedding or event because it often involves guests wearing new outfits that haven’t been worn before and the added pressure to look their best for the special occasion. Nothing to worry about though, with an additional pair of eyes, ears and hands to support your Client on the day that matters most, no stone remains unturned and you can rest assured the Clients and guests’ best interests are prioritised.
TOP TIP: Hire a freelance event coordinator to support you in event-day management. Having a member of your team available to oversee both the ceremony and the setting up of the reception venue (where you would otherwise be required in two places at once) is invaluable and means there is always someone else on-hand to maintain a high level of customer service.
